Canada has different strategies for giving visas to the individuals working in different fields. The equivalent is the situation for caregivers. A foreign national who is able to give care to children, elderly or people with disabilities in private homes without supervision, must meet certain necessities to be eligible for the Caregiver Program in Canada.

As of June 18, 2019, the home child care worker pilot and home support worker pilot came into existence replacing the previous live in care giver program

you’ll get an open work permit to come to Canada and work temporarily. This work permit:

  • is occupation-restricted (so you have to work in that specific occupation)
  • doesn’t need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
  • lets you get the work experience you need to be eligible for permanent residence

The caregiver must satisfy the prerequisites as per the Citizenship and Immigration Canada).

Caregiver pilot program 

  • Caring for children – The caregiver must give at least 30 hours of care to a child (under 18 years).
  • Caring for elderly – The caregiver must give at least 30 hours of care to an old individual (65 or above).
  • Caring for people with disabilities – The caregiver must give at least 30 hours care to an individual with disabilities or any ailments.

Necessities for a home support and home child care worker Visa

  • have a genuine and valid job offer
  • are able to do the job
  • meet the minimum language requirement of CLB 5
  • You must have a completed post-secondary education credential of at least 1 year
  • are admissible to Canada
  • plan to live outside the province of Quebec as a permanent resident
