The rural and northern immigration pilot was propelled in 2019. Under this program, skilled international workers are pulled into provinces in Canada to improve the economy. The regions included under this program are Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Yukon.

Communities selected

Till now, 11 communities have been chosen to take an interest in the Rural and Northern immigration pilot which are as per the following : 

  • North Bay, Ontario
  • Sudbury, Ontario
  • Timmins, Ontario
  • Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
  • Thunder Bay, Ontario
  • Brandon, Manitoba
  • Altona/Rhineland, Manitoba
  • Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
  • Claresholm, Alberta
  • Vernon, British Columbia
  • West Kootenay, British Columbia

Prerequisites to apply

  • Community recommendation – A community chooses to suggest a candidate based on the following :
    • The aim to live in the community
    • Proposition for employment and economic needs of the community
    • Work experience and skills
    • Binds to the community
  • Work experience – The candidate must have in any event 1560 hours (one year) of consistent paid work involvement with the previous 3 years. The experience must be in a similar occupation inside or outside of Canada. Self employed experiences are out of consideration.
  • Job offer – the candidate must have a real proposition for employment in any of the participating communities. The job must be full time, non-seasonal and permanent. The salary offered must meet the Employment opportunity Bank’s Minimum Wage for your job offer’s NOC.
  • Education
    • Canadian secondary school diploma or foreign equivalent
    • The applicants who have graduated from a post-secondary program must have a degree, diploma, certificate or apprenticeship from a program of 2 years or more.

Or

A master’s degree or PhD. 

  • Language
    • NOC 0 and A: Minimum language score of a CLB 6
    • NOC B: Minimum language score of a CLB 5
    • NOC C and D: Minimum language score of a CLB 4
  • Funds  – the candidates must show that they have enough assets to help themselves and their families when they move to Canada.
  • An aim to live in the community
