In 2019, the government of Canada declared to start another immigration pilot for people in farming ventures, thinking about the deficiency of labour in these industries. The pilot was launched in May 2020 and started tolerating applications from fifteenth May 2020.
This is a 3-year agri-food immigration pilot which will give eligible foreign laborers in the field with the pathway to Canadian permanent residency. A limited of 2750 candidates and their families will be chosen for the permanent residency annually. Hence, maximum 16,500 candidates will be chosen in the three years of this program.
Eligible Occupations
- Meat processing
- Retail butcher
- industrial butcher
- Food processing worker
- Harvesting worker for all-year mushroom production and greenhouse crop production
- General farm worker for all-year mushroom production and greenhouse crop production or livestock raising
- Farm supervisor and livestock specialist for meat handling, all-year mushroom production, greenhouse crop production or livestock raising
Eligibility prerequisites
- Work experience – a year of full-time, non-seasonal Canadian work experience in the Temporary Foreign Worker Program in one of the eligible occupations.
- Language – A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 4 in English or French
- Education – Canadian equivalency of secondary school level or more noteworthy
- Job offer – Intermediate job offer for full time, non-seasonal work in Canada, outside of Quebec.
